Hi Mike,

Love your show. I would love to be considered as a guest for your next "YourBiz" show. I'm an entrepreneur in Oklahoma City and have owned my company for five years. Monique Terrell is my accountability partner and we have been helping each other define our brands.

My company is RenovateKate and I am a residential pre-construction consultant. I don't know anyone else who is doing what I do. Although I also do residential remodeling, I am phasing out that part to focus on educating home owners about the residential building and remodeling process, acting as a guide and liaison between home owners and their builders/contractors. There are many details that are often overlooked in the process of construction and I can save my clients thousands of dollars by pre-planning their projects and keeping them organized, thus eliminating change orders. The builder also benefits by not waiting on the client to make a decision or the client not having their materials selected.

I'm struggling with finding home owners who are at the stage of THINKING about starting a project. Anyone who has built or remodeled in the past says, "I wish I had known about you two years ago when we were building/remodeling." Those who have never been through the process have no idea how difficult, stressful, and complex the process will be. I want to offer classes, webinars, podcasts, internet radio/tv programming, but have no idea how to market this service.

I need someone like you to ask me the tough questions that I don't know to ask myself. The market is wide open and there is little to no competition. I am also developing classes that focus solely on Aging In Place issues for the 70 million baby boomers that are currently faced with their parents' aging issues as well as their own pending aging needs.

Thanks for all the great information you're providing. I'm a big fan and always look forward to your next show. Keep up the good work!!

Sharing resources seems like a great idea for a startup business. I have never thought of that. There seems to be alot of possibilities in that idea.

Comment on Losing Your Business and Personal Brand by Renovate Kate

I just heard about you yesterday from a friend and just finished listening to "Losing Your Brand" and Wow! What a fantastic show! This is exactly what I needed to hear today.

I have know for about a year what my focus should be, I just didn't know how to brand it. So about three weeks ago I "became" Renovate Kate. I am a residential remodeler, and a female, so I already had a different approach and perspective to the remodeling industry. However, everyone is leery about builders/remodelers/general contractors. So I've switched my focus from remodeling to "educating the home-owner." No one wants to feel ignorant about such an emotionally- and financially-charged undertaking, and I don't know anyone else in the industry that focuses solely on consulting and educating the client prior to their construction project.

Last week I came up with an icon for my brand and I've been "out in public" as Renovate Kate...yellow construction hat, pink shirt and tool belt complete with a hammer...and "Kate" has been a big hit everywhere I go! I even had Renovate Kate stickers produced that I stick on every person I encounter. They can't help but smile and ask me what it is I do.

I just wanted to write and say "thank you, Mike Whittaker" for such a great show. It is so rare that I hear a speaker who has content with real substance and who gives real answers to real problems. So often a speaker talks in circles for 55 minutes only to try to sell a product at the end, and I'm left feeling that I just wasted another hour of my time. So, thank you again for such helpful, meaningful and relevant information. I cannot wait to listen to your other podcasts!!
